The Chisinau Municipal Council has approved the conferral of the title of Honorary Citizen of Chisinau to nine personalities who have distinguished themselves through their contributions in the fields of culture, music, science, education, and sports. The decisions were made during the meeting on July 16, reports IPN.
According to the municipality, the distinctions are awarded in the context of the 590th anniversary of the first documentary attestation of Chisinau, as a sign of recognition of the activities and merits of those who have contributed to the promotion of the values of the municipality and the Republic of Moldova.
The title of Honorary Citizen will be conferred to Ilona Stepan, artistic director and principal conductor of the Academic Choral Chapel “Doina”, Svetlana Bivol, musicologist and director of the National Philharmonic “Serghei Lunchevici”, the poet, prose writer, essayist and publicist Ianos Turcanu, the composer, musicologist and university professor Constantin Rusnac, as well as the performers Lidia Botezatu, Anisoara Puica, Olga Ciolacu and Ion Suruceanu.
Furthermore, the distinction will also be awarded to Mihail Malear, a 10-time world champion in judo for veterans, who continues to achieve remarkable results even after the age of 80.
Through this decision, the municipal authorities express their appreciation for the personalities who, through their activity and achievements, have contributed to the development and promotion of Chisinau’s image, representing the capital and the Republic of Moldova with dignity.
