The designated Prime Minister, Vasile Tofan, initiated consultations with parliamentary factions before requesting the investiture vote of the new cabinet of ministers. The PSRM, Home Democracy, and Alternative factions participated in the discussions. The PCRM deputies refused the invitation, and those from the Our Party faction left the meeting before it began, IPN reports.

After consultations, the leader of the Socialist Party, Igor Dodon, stated that the party will review the government program after its publication, but maintains its decision not to support the new executive. According to him, Moldova needs early parliamentary elections, and changing the prime minister will not solve the country’s problems.

The President of the PCRM faction, Diana Caraman, said that the party did not participate in consultations because the government program and the composition of the Government were not made public. She described the meeting as a formality and stated that the responsibility for the future executive falls on the parliamentary majority and President Maia Sandu.

Ion Chicu, the deputy of the Alternativa faction, stated that the discussions focused on economic and social issues, such as the budget deficit, public administration reform, agriculture, and the business environment. He said that the faction will decide on supporting the Government after the publication of the program and the list of ministers.

The leader of the Home Democracy Party, Vasile Costiuc, mentioned that the party has presented seven proposals regarding the modernization of the country, the development of the economy, and the attraction of investments. According to him, the governance program and the composition of the future cabinet of ministers were not presented at the consultations.

The leader of the “Our Party” faction, Renato Usatii, said that the party left the consultations after the designated Prime Minister did not arrive at the set time. He stated that the dialogue could not be constructive without the government program and the list of ministers.

In response, Vasile Tofan explained that he was a minute late to the meeting with PPPN, as the previous discussion with the representatives of the farmers had been prolonged. He expressed his regret for the situation and his hope that he would be able to have a discussion with the representatives of the formation.

Vasile Tofan has been nominated for the position of Prime Minister by President Maia Sandu, at the proposal of the Action and Solidarity Party, following the resignation of Alexandru Munteanu. The government’s swearing-in session is scheduled for July 21.
