A 46-year-old Bulgarian citizen has been sentenced to life imprisonment for six offenses, including the sexual exploitation of two children from Bulgaria and Moldova, reports IPN.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, the court’s decision is not final, but the defendant remains in pretrial detention until the final sentence.
Law enforcement officials mention that among the committed offenses are the illegal deprivation of liberty of the child’s mother from Moldova and her two sisters, administering psychotropic substances to the minor under the pretext of vitamins, child pornography, and illegal possession of psychotropic substances.
The defendant’s assets, worth over 4.5 million lei, have been seized, and the court has ordered the payment of 250 thousand euros for moral damages to the five victims. Furthermore, the child sexually exploited in Moldova continues to benefit from social and psychological services provided by the state.
According to prosecutors, last year the PCCOCS sent to court nearly 40 criminal cases targeting human trafficking, sexual exploitation of children, and other related offenses.
