A 16-year-old teenager lost his life in a road accident that occurred on Thursday evening, in the village of Obreja Noua, Falesti district. The boy was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by a 17-year-old young man, who did not have a driving license, reports IPN.

According to the General Inspectorate of Police, preliminary investigations suggest that the teenager at the handlebars tried to overtake another vehicle at an intersection, without ensuring it was safe to do so. During the maneuver, the motorcycle collided with a car driven by a 44-year-old man, who was properly making a left turn.

Following the impact, both the motorcyclist and the passenger were urgently transported to Falesti District Hospital. Due to the injuries sustained, the 16-year-old teenager could not be saved.

The police have initiated a criminal process to determine all the circumstances under which the accident occurred.

Law enforcement officials remind parents not to allow minors to drive motorcycles or other vehicles without legal rights, warning that such decisions can have tragic consequences.

The National Road Administration has launched the tender for the designation of the company that will carry out the works financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, reports IPN.

According to AND, the contract is divided into two lots. The first targets the rehabilitation of an 8.2 kilometer section, in the area of the localities Leuseni, Cotul Morii, and Sarateni. The second lot includes a segment of 29.6 kilometers that crosses the localities of Onesti, Costesti, Bujor, Chetroseni, Miresti, Mirzoaia, Cristesti, and Iurceni.

The project involves the construction of a new concrete roadway, earthworks, drainage system arrangements, building of retaining walls, rehabilitation of bridges and culverts, as well as marking and signaling works. Depending on the specifics of each section, two, three or four traffic lanes will be arranged, along with roundabouts, sidewalks, and public transport stations.

The estimated duration for the execution of the works is approximately 2 and a half years. Interested companies can submit their offers until September 30, 2026, through the EBRD’s electronic procurement platform.

According to the National Road Administration, the rehabilitation of this section of the M1 road is a project of strategic importance, which will improve accessibility, traffic conditions, and road safety for the residents of the region and for traffic participants.
