The prices for firewood range between 380 and 1,265 lei per cubic meter

Firewood is being sold this year at prices ranging from 380 to 950 lei for a cubic meter of softwood and between 783 and 1 265 lei for hardwood, depending on the forestry enterprise. The prices are presented by the Ministry of Environment in the context of increasing demand as the cold season approaches, reports IPN.

The authorities specify that the prices are indicative and may vary depending on the type and trading conditions. At the forestry enterprise in Balti, a cubic meter of softwood costs, on average, 540 lei, while one of hardwood costs 1,080 lei. In Călărași, the prices are 580 and, respectively, 980 lei, while in Orhei – 600 and 1,000 lei.

The Ministry of Environment recommends citizens to purchase wood only from authorized sources and to verify its provenance. When buying, people are encouraged to request the invoice or fiscal receipt and to keep the documents confirming the purchase. According to the institution, wood purchased without documents does not guarantee a legal provenance and may favor illegal timber trade.

In the upcoming period, national checks will be intensified. The controls will target logging areas, transportation and the origin of the timber, as well as the documents accompanying its marketing, including in the case of wood delivered to households.

Citizens who suspect cases of illegal logging, transportation, or sale of wood are urged to report to the Environmental Protection Inspectorate or the Police.
