Six organizations from the Republic of Moldova will benefit from grants totaling over one million euros for the development of programs aimed at start-ups and entrepreneurs, as part of a European project. The programs will cover all stages of business development, from idea formulation to skill development and preparation for attracting investments, reports IPN.

The grants are awarded within the EU4Innovation East project, funded by the European Union, co-financed by the French Government, and implemented by Expertise France. The programs will include mentoring, incubation and acceleration, as well as activities connecting founders with investors and the diaspora community.

Present at the event announcing the beneficiaries, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, Natalia Selevestru, emphasized that transforming an idea into a viable business and, subsequently, into a competitive company on international markets requires skills, mentorship and access to investors and markets.

The French Ambassador to Chisinau, Dominique Waag, stated that her country supports the development of the start-up and innovation ecosystem in the Republic of Moldova and is ready to share the experience gained in this field.

The head of the Competitive and Inclusive Growth sector within the EU Delegation in Chisinau, Julda Kielyte, mentioned that Europe needs innovators, and the Republic of Moldova has the talent and potential to contribute to this ecosystem.

The Deputy Director of the EU4Innovation East regional project, Charles Mathiaux, mentioned that the evaluation of the 63 projects was difficult, as the proposals were of very high quality.

Veaceslav Platon has been sent to trial in a case where he is accused of organizing and directing an illegal scheme to take over a share package of the commercial bank “Moldova-Agroindbank” SA. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office announces that the criminal investigation has been completed, and the case has been sent to court for examination on the merits, reports IPN.

According to the PA, Platon would have organized transactions with the bank’s shares without the will of the legal owners or their successors, based on false documents. As a result, a package representing 43.11% of the share capital of “Moldova-Agroindbank”, worth over 400 million lei, would have been obtained.

Prosecutors assert that, subsequently, in order to conceal the illicit origin of the actions, these would have been traded to non-resident companies, the real beneficiary of which would have been Veaceslav Platon.

For the recovery of criminal assets, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has seized monetary means equivalent to the value of the damage, a part of which has been returned to the injured parties in the process of enforcing the executive titles.

Veaceslav Platon was sentenced in 2017 to 18 years in prison in the “Bank Fraud” case, but was acquitted in 2021, after prosecutors dropped the charges. Subsequently, he left the Republic of Moldova and was announced internationally wanted. In 2025, he was detained in the United Kingdom on the basis of an extradition request, being subsequently released on bail. Platon pleads not guilty.

The price of diesel is increasing by 60 bani, reaching a price of 34.46 lei per liter. The price of 95 octane gasoline exceeds 33 lei per liter, reports IPN.

The National Agency for Energy Regulation has set a maximum selling price of 33.04 lei for a liter of COR 95 gasoline for the period of September 12-14, an increase of 27 bani.

According to ANRE, the price increase is driven by the rise in international quotations for petroleum products. In the last two weeks, the Platts quotation for diesel has increased by 265 dollars per ton, or 20.3%, and that for gasoline by 105 dollars per ton, or 8.6%.

And the price of Brent oil has increased. This week, it exceeded 107 dollars per barrel, a level reached for the third time in the last 10 years.

According to ANRE, the developments are related to the intensification of tensions in the Middle East and the risks regarding global oil supply. These international developments put direct pressure on fuel prices in the Republic of Moldova.

The institution specifies that currently, national diesel stocks cover approximately 10 days of consumption, while those of gasoline – approximately 20 days. According to the authority, these volumes are sufficient for the current market demand.
