The Republic of Moldova has already demonstrated that it is a reliable partner for the European Union, including through the solidarity shown in crisis management and participation in European civil protection operations. The statement was made by the European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, on her first visit to the Republic of Moldova, reports IPN.
During a press conference held together with the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, Hadja Lahbib said that joining the EU means more than just joining an institution, but integrating into a community capable of protecting its citizens. The official highlighted the support given by the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine following the outbreak of war by Russia.
Hadja Lahbib appreciated the participation of Moldovan rescuers in European operations to combat fires in Greece. She visited the USAR team of the Republic of Moldova, specialized in urban search and rescue, and expressed her hope that it will soon obtain international certification. The Commissioner urged authorities to continue aligning the national civil protection system with European standards.
The official also spoke about equality, protection of women victims of violence, inclusion of persons with disabilities, and the participation of the Roma community. According to her, the Republic of Moldova still has to implement reforms in the field of equality and non-discrimination.
Minister Natalia Plugaru mentioned that the Republic of Moldova is transitioning from managing the humanitarian crisis to developing stronger and more inclusive social systems. According to the minister, the authorities are developing community services and reforming the disability determination mechanism, with European support, so that social protection becomes more accessible and centered on people’s rights.
Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin stated that the authorities are developing the National Early Warning System and strengthening the intervention and protection capabilities of critical infrastructure. According to the official, the USAR team of the Republic of Moldova is prepared for international certification in 2027.
