Employees of the Border Police and the Customs Service from three Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing points are returning to national territory as of today. This refers to the Giurgiulesti-Reni, Briceni-Rossosani, and Criva-Mamaliga crossing points, where until now they were conducting checks together with their Ukrainian colleagues. According to authorities, this measure is temporary and is being implemented for security reasons, reports IPN.
According to the Border Police, the change in the organization of control will be valid for 90 days. During this period, the border police and Moldovan customs officers will operate within the existing infrastructure on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, after until now they had carried out their control activities on the Ukrainian side.
“The measure does not affect the functionality of border crossing points, nor the cross-border movement of people and transport means. Control processes will continue to be ensured, the change only affecting the location where the control authorities of the Republic of Moldova will temporarily carry out their activity,” is mentioned in a press release from the Border Police.
The authorities specify that the decision was made in the context of the security situation near the Moldovan-Ukrainian border and the risks generated by the Russian Federation’s air attacks on infrastructure in Ukraine, including near the border with the Republic of Moldova.
A few days ago, the Starokazacie crossing point in Ukraine was the target of a drone attack, as a result of which two people died and several were injured. The infrastructure of the point was affected, and the activity of the Tudora-Starokazacie PTF was temporarily halted.
