Who are the four candidates for the head of TRM and what connections do they have with the current leadership

Four candidates remain in the race for the position of general director of the public company “Teleradio-Moldova”, after the completion of the first stage of the competition. Their CVs reveal different experiences in media management, television and public administration, as well as connections, to varying degrees, with the current leadership of the public broadcaster, reports IPN.

The Supervision and Development Council of TRM has admitted the candidates Dorin Scobioala, Ecaterina Cheptanaru, Sergiu Sandulescu and Andrei Zapsa at the interview stage.

Dorin Scobioala has extensive experience in television and editorial management. He was the deputy director of the news department at Moldova 1, and held producer roles within media institutions such as PRO TV Chisinau, NIT, Prime TV and Jurnal TV. He is a Reuters correspondent for the Republic of Moldova and has collaborated over the years with international media institutions such as BBC, CNN, Associated Press and France Presse.

In April 2025, Dorin Scobioala returned to Teleradio-Moldova in the role of general producer, where he worked for several months under the leadership of Vlad Turcanu. His departure from the institution was not publicly explained. His professional experience is primarily focused on journalism, TV production and editorial management.

Ecaterina Cheptanaru is another candidate with experience within the public television. She was the deputy general director of Moldova 1 during the period of April-July 2025, responsible for the operational management of the station, during Vlad Turcanu’s mandate. After leaving office, she returned to the Association for Responsible Initiatives, where she coordinates the “European Scholarships for Journalists” program.

Previously, Ecaterina Cheptanaru carried out the project “Bridges to Europe” at Realitatea TV and coordinated projects dedicated to European integration and media development.

Andrei Zapsa is the only candidate who is currently part of the executive team of TRM. He holds the position of deputy general director of the television station, after previously being the deputy general director for development and head of the Strategic Development Service. His rise within the company took place during Vlad Turcanu’s term. He was also part of the jury of the Republic of Moldova at Eurovision 2026, an edition followed by controversies regarding the score given to Romania and the way of communicating the votes, a scandal that preceded the resignation of the general director, Vlad Turcanu.

His CV indicates experience closer to public administration and education rather than television. He was a university professor, inspector at the State Fiscal Service and deputy director of a private high school. Meanwhile, he continued his academic studies.

Sergiu Sandulescu is the only candidate who has not previously worked within the “Teleradio-Moldova” company. A professional director, he led the ALT TV and Euro TV Chisinau stations, and in recent years his professional activity has mainly taken place in the private sector.

The interviews of the four candidates are scheduled for July 17, when they will present their managerial projects for the development of TRM over the next seven years. According to the regulations, the winner will be the candidate who will obtain the highest score and at least a grade of 7 from the members of the Supervisory and Development Council.

The position became vacant following the resignation of Vlad Turcanu, announced in May, amidst the controversies generated by the score given by the Republic of Moldova to Romania at Eurovision 2026.

The Moldovan firefighters stationed in Greece have participated in their first intervention to extinguish a vegetation fire. The mission took place in the town of Souroti in the Thessaloniki region, where Greek authorities requested additional support to extinguish several outbreaks, reports IPN.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the team was mobilized Thursday morning and intervened alongside Greek firefighters to extinguish the fire. The Moldovan rescuers were divided into two teams, they extinguished the hotspots and checked the affected perimeter to prevent their reignition.

Subsequently, the firefighters returned to the operational base, where the fire trucks, equipment, and necessary reserves for potential interventions were checked.

Moldovan firefighters are participating, from July 14 to August 1, in a pre-positioning mission in Greece, organized through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. The purpose of this mission is to support Greek authorities in managing vegetation and forest fires during the high-risk season.
