Chisinau marks 590 years since its first documentary attestation

Chisinau marks 590 years since its first documentary attestation. On this occasion, the mayor Ion Ceban sent a congratulatory message, in which he emphasized that the city is not just streets, buildings or projects, but above all the people who build it, live it day by day and contribute to its development, reports IPN.

In the context of the anniversary, the inhabitants of the capital are invited to the “Te salut, Chisinau!” Festival, organized for the sixth consecutive year. The events will take place over three days in the city center, especially on the pedestrian street “Eugen Doga”, where concerts, cultural activities and events dedicated to the history of the capital are announced.

The festive program will begin at 4:00 PM, at the Cross Complex in the Metropolitan Cathedral Square, with a presentation about the history of Chisinau and the main stages of the city’s evolution.

Starting from 6:00 PM, on the pedestrian street “Eugen Doga”, the opening concert of the festival will take place. The Municipal Folk Music Orchestra of the Advahov Brothers will perform on stage, as well as artists from the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

In the context of the anniversary, the National Museum of History of Moldova is organizing the exhibition “Urban Archeology and the Hidden Memory of Chisinau”. This can be visited between July 17 and November 30 and brings together results of archaeological research carried out in recent decades, including vestiges discovered in the capital, photographs, site documents, and historical reconstructions.

At the Sculeni border crossing point, there is heavy traffic exiting the Republic of Moldova. The Customs Service announces that, in order to facilitate traffic flow, all control lanes have been opened and the reverse procedure is being applied, reports IPN.

The activity at the crossing point is operating at maximum capacity, and the authorities recommend travelers intending to leave the country to opt for the Costesti, Leova or Cahul crossing points, in order to avoid long waiting times.

The Customs Service specifies that it will return with updated information, depending on the evolution of the situation.

A 16-year-old teenager lost his life in a road accident that occurred on Thursday evening, in the village of Obreja Noua, Falesti district. The boy was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by a 17-year-old young man, who did not have a driving license, reports IPN.

According to the General Inspectorate of Police, preliminary investigations suggest that the teenager at the handlebars tried to overtake another vehicle at an intersection, without ensuring it was safe to do so. During the maneuver, the motorcycle collided with a car driven by a 44-year-old man, who was properly making a left turn.

Following the impact, both the motorcyclist and the passenger were urgently transported to Falesti District Hospital. Due to the injuries sustained, the 16-year-old teenager could not be saved.

The police have initiated a criminal process to determine all the circumstances under which the accident occurred.

Law enforcement officials remind parents not to allow minors to drive motorcycles or other vehicles without legal rights, warning that such decisions can have tragic consequences.
