President Maia Sandu signed the “The Kiev Declaration”, along with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other European leaders. The document reaffirms support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, calls for the intensification of sanctions against Russia and supports the expansion of the European Union, reports IPN.
The declaration was adopted at the end of the Ukraine – Southeast Europe summit, held in Kiev on the occasion of Ukraine’s Statehood Day. During the meeting, Maia Sandu spoke about the importance of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in the context of security challenges in the region.
The head of state mentioned the necessity of developing joint projects in areas such as infrastructure, transportation and energy, appreciating that these can contribute to strengthening connectivity and resilience in Southeast Europe.
On the sidelines of the summit, Maia Sandu had bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, and the Prime Minister of Slovenia, Janez Janša.
The meeting was also attended by the President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, the President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, as well as the President of Greece, Constantine Tassoulas.
