The prosecutors are asking for seven years of imprisonment for the former interim general director of Chisinau International Airport, Petru Jardan, and for the former head of the Financial-Administrative Department, Alexandru Ciutac. The two are being tried for abuse of power, and the sentence is expected to be pronounced on November 20, reports IPN.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office announces that the judicial debates in this case have concluded. According to the prosecutors, the two would have acted in the interest of the criminal group led by the fugitive Ilan Sor and would have transferred expenses that belonged to the “Avia Invest” company, the airport concessionaire, onto the state enterprise.

According to the accusation, Petru Jardan allegedly signed an insurance contract worth 379,020 dollars, and the monthly premiums were paid from the Airport’s account. The prosecutors argue that these expenses should have been borne by “Avia Invest”, according to the concession contract signed in 2013.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office mentions that after the issuance of the policy in the name of “Avia Invest”, the rights and obligations related to the insurance reverted to the concessionaire company. However, the additional agreement was not registered in the airport’s accounting records, which would have allowed the non-repayment of the money paid by the state enterprise. The damage calculated by the prosecutors amounts to 3.69 million lei.

In addition to the prison sentence, the prosecutors have requested that the defendants be barred from holding positions for five years. At the same time, the prosecution has requested the admission of the civil action and the recovery from the two of the damage amounting to 3.69 million lei.
