Diesel, under 36 lei per liter. The set price is 17 bani lower

The price of standard diesel drops below the threshold of 36 lei per liter. The National Agency for Energy Regulation has set a price of 35.89 lei, 17 bani less, for the period of October 3-5, reports IPN.

At the same time, a liter of 95 octane gasoline will be sold for 34.27 lei per liter at the pump, 4 cents more expensive.

On Wednesday, fuel prices saw their first drop after about a month of continuous increases that had pushed them to historic highs. ANRE had previously attributed the series of price hikes to rising international quotes for petroleum products, driven by tensions in the Middle East and risks regarding global fuel supplies.

On international markets, oil prices are falling. Brent oil is traded at 99.51 dollars per barrel, down by 2.74%, while American WTI oil is quoted at 89.45 dollars per barrel, 3.68% below the previous level.

Throughout the month of September, as a result of ANTA inspections, penalties amounting to over 1.1 million lei were imposed for violations related to illicit transportation of people and goods, and road safety. In total, 203 misdemeanor reports were drawn up, IPN reports.

According to the National Auto Transport Agency, about 90 reports were drawn up for the illegal conduct of road transport activities and related services, the penalties applied amounting to about 740 thousand lei. Around 70 reports targeted the violation of regulations regarding the road transport of people and goods, with penalties of about 265 thousand lei.

Among the detected violations are the lack of mandatory documents on board, exceeding the total weight or the load allowed on axles, non-compliance with schedules and routes, as well as violation of driving and rest periods of the drivers.

At the same time, inspectors have documented cases of violation of public road usage rules, as well as transportation of oversized loads or dangerous goods without the necessary documents. Other reports were drawn up for allowing vehicles without periodic technical inspection on the road, non-issuance of travel tickets or fiscal receipts.

ANTA specifies that the control actions will continue throughout the entire territory of the country and urges road transport operators and drivers to comply with the legal provisions.

Alcohol consumption continues to represent a significant risk factor for the population’s health, affecting both adults and adolescents. National data shows a high level of consumption and episodes of excessive drinking. In the context of the National Alcohol-Free Day, marked on October 2nd, specialists draw attention to the effects of alcohol on health, safety, and the well-being of families and communities, reports IPN.

Over 63% of adults aged between 18 and 69 in Moldova have consumed alcohol in the last 30 days. Moreover, about 14% of the respondents of the national STEPS study stated that they had episodes of excessive consumption – that is, any amount of six or more glasses of alcohol drunk on a single occasion. According to ANSP, the phenomenon is more common among men than women.

The agency mentions a high consumption of alcohol among teenagers as well. According to the most recent European Study on Alcohol and Other Drug Consumption among Students – ESPAD, 70% of 15-16 year old teenagers in Moldova have consumed alcohol at least once in their lifetime, and 44% – in the last 30 days.

At the same time, almost half of the teenagers stated that they had their first alcoholic drink at the age of 13 or earlier. ANSP warns that alcohol can affect the teenagers’ judgement and self-control, and may promote risky behaviors, traumas, accidents and violence.

According to the World Health Organization, alcohol consumption is associated with over 200 diseases, conditions, and types of injuries, causing approximately 2.6 million deaths annually worldwide. Moreover, on the European continent, alcohol consumption is associated with approximately 800 thousand deaths per year, about 10% of the total number of deaths.

ANSP states that alcohol is classified as a carcinogenic agent and can cause at least seven types of cancer. Therefore, the agency recommends that the population avoid alcohol consumption or reduce as much as possible the quantity and frequency of it. Also, alcohol should be avoided before driving a vehicle and during pregnancy, and children and teenagers should not be offered alcoholic beverages.
