Ukraine marks 34 years of independence. The declaration of Ukraine’s independence was adopted on August 24, 1991, when it broke away from the former Soviet Union, reports IPN.
Despite the war of aggression initiated by Russia more than three years ago, Independence Day remains a declaration of resistance by the Ukrainian people.
In a video posted on social media, the leader from Kiev, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, congratulated the Ukrainian people: “We are building a Ukraine strong enough to live in safety and peace” and “we will be together again, as one family, as one country. It’s just a matter of time.”
“Today, both the USA and Europe agree on one thing: Ukraine has not yet won, but it certainly will not lose,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy, referring to the war initiated by Russia, which has lasted 1,278 days.
In the context of celebrating independence, the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, visited Kiev. The Canadian dignitary assured that in this “critical” moment in the history of the Ukrainian people, Canada is intensifying its support and efforts for a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.
