Torrential rains and strong gusts of wind on Sunday caused damage in several localities in the Republic of Moldova. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, rescuers intervened in 20 situations to mitigate the consequences of the weather phenomena, reports IPN.
According to IGSU, 17 of the interventions involved clearing and removing trees knocked down by the wind in Rezina, Orhei, Cantemir, Soroca, Leova and in the municipality of Chisinau, while three other missions were required for pumping water from flooded areas in Chisinau and the Cantemir district.
In the capital, rescuers evacuated water from an apartment located in the basement on Drumul Viilor street and intervened to remove fallen trees over cars, roads, and electrical networks on Sucevita, Ghidighici, Alba Iulia, Paris, Grigore Alexandrescu, Pushkin streets and on Cuza Voda boulevard. Interventions for evacuating water from flooded cellars and basements also took place in the Cania locality and in the city of Cantemir.
According to IGSU, no casualties were reported following the inclement weather.
The City Hall of Chisinau informs that the teams from the Municipal Enterprise “Association for the Management of Green Spaces” intervened to remove the branches fallen or damaged by the strong wind and heavy rains. On Ghidighici street, a willow broke and fell over a car. The strong wind knocked down several trees on Paris, Marinescu and Teodorovici streets, while on Nicolae Costin, Vasile Lupu, Calea Iesilor, Deleanu and Sucevita, several broken branches were reported.
