The actors of the “Vasile Alecsandri” National Theatre from Balti will perform on Friday, starting at 8:00 PM, in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau, the show “Tema pentru acasa” (Homework). The play is inspired by the homonymous novel of Nicolae Dabija and illustrates episodes from the period of Stalinist deportations, reflected through the relationship between a Romanian literature professor and his former student. The public access is free, reports IPN.
The show follows the destinies of Mihai and Maria in the context of Soviet repression. The action largely takes place in a Gulag camp, where, for seven days, the two lovers face extreme conditions and reaffirm their attachment to each other. The play offers a reconstruction of the abuses committed during that period, based on documents and testimonies.
The play will be performed in the context of the exhibition “State Terror in Soviet Moldova. Scope, Victims, and Perpetrators”, organized by the Government of the Republic of Moldova – State Chancellery and the Ministry of Culture, with the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Archives Agency, and the Railways of Moldova.
