A man from the capital has been sentenced to one year and 55 days in prison for two incidents involving driving while heavily intoxicated and refusing to provide biological samples for testing. The court also revoked his driving licence, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the first offense occurred in June 2021, when police stopped the man in the capital’s Botanica district. A breathalyzer test confirmed that he was heavily intoxicated.

Later, in March 2024, the man caused a traffic accident near the village of Marandeni in Falesti district after losing control of his car and crashing into an electricity pole. A breathalyser test showed an alcohol concentration of 0.70 mg/l in his breath. He was taken to Falesti District Hospital for a medical examination but refused to provide biological samples.

In November 2024, the man was again caught driving under the influence of alcohol in the capital’s Botanica district. During the criminal investigation, the defendant denied guilt in both drink-driving incidents. He partially admitted guilt in relation to his refusal to provide biological samples for testing.

Prosecutors clarified that the man was found guilty in connection with the June 2021 incident but was not sentenced because the statute of limitations had expired.
