Petrocub rejects the allegations regarding political involvement in the football field project at “Matei Basarab” high school

The Petrocub Football Club rejects accusations regarding a possible political involvement in the project of arranging a football field on the territory of the “Matei Basarab” Theoretical High School in the Râșcani sector of the capital. The club’s management specifies that the investment, estimated at 11 million lei, aims at developing sports infrastructure for children and will be carried out based on a collaboration agreement with the educational institution.

In a press conference at IPN, the club’s president, Mihail Usatîi, stated that the choice of the high school in the Râșcani sector was determined by the large number of children in the area and the club’s intention to expand its football academy in the capital. According to him, the field will primarily be designated for children up to 16 years old and will not be used for the senior team’s training sessions.

The collaboration agreement between the high school and the public association Sports Club “Petrocub”, signed on May 21, provides for earthworks, fencing of the field, and the arrangement of the playing surface with artificial turf. The document is concluded for a period of five years, with the possibility of extension, and the total investment is estimated at 11 million lei.

Mihail Usatîi stated that high school students will be able to use the field for free in the first part of the day, and later it will host the training sessions of the club’s children’s groups. Also, activities will be organized here as part of the “Football in Schools” program, implemented by the Moldovan Football Federation.

Referring to the grievances of the residents in the area, including protests related to the deforestation of trees, the club president mentioned that the project also includes the arrangement of green spaces. According to him, new trees are to be planted, and the land will be fenced to ensure the safety of students.

When asked by journalists about the involvement in the project of the son-in-law of the capital’s mayor, Ion Ceban, Mihail Usatîi stated that he has known him for several years, from the time when he was active in the transportation field. He specified that the person in question is working within the Petrocub Academy and contributes to the coordination of the project, without holding a leadership position at the construction site.

According to the club president, the football field is expected to be inaugurated around May 15, 2027, and the landscaping work around the high school is expected to be completed by the end of the same year.

Television stations will have to broadcast programs in Romanian or dubbed or voiced in Romanian for at least 50%, between the hours of 06:00 AM-12:00 AM. This provision is part of the amendments to the Audiovisual Media Services Code, voted by Parliament in the final reading, reports IPN.

The requirement does not apply to providers whose services are intended for communities in administrative-territorial units where an ethnic minority represents the majority of the population.

At the same time, the minimum quota of Romanian language TV services in distributors’ packages will increase from 50% to 60%. TV services in any other language will not be able to exceed 30% of the package for each individual language.

The amendments also provide new rules for the regional public provider in Gagauzia, “Gagauziya Radio Televizionu” (GRT). The director of the institution will be appointed through a public competition, and the law will establish the responsibilities of the Management Committee and the duties of the Supervisory Council.

Also, the quota of musical works by composers and artists from the Republic of Moldova, for thematic television with a musical profile and radio stations, will increase from 10% to 20%.

The 30% quota for musical works in Romanian remains unchanged.

The law also sets quotas for audiovisual works produced by independent producers from the Republic of Moldova and Europe, introduces measures to protect the personal data of minors, and provides for annual reporting on accessibility measures for people with disabilities.

Most of the provisions will come into effect on January 1, 2027, with the exception of some provisions that will apply from the date of entry into force of the Treaty of Accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
