The member states of the European Union have agreed to unlock 6.6 billion euros for Ukraine through the European Peace Facility mechanism. The announcement was made on Friday by the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, reports IPN.
In a social media post, Kaja Kallas specified that out of the total amount, 900 million euros will be directed towards the EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine (EUMAM), and one billion euros will finance joint purchases of military equipment.
The remaining 4.7 billion euros will be used to reimburse the expenses of the member states that have already delivered weapons to Kiev, mentioned Kaja Kallas. In the meantime, several countries have announced that they will redirect the amounts received back to Ukraine.
The allocation of financial resources through this mechanism had been blocked for over two years due to the opposition of Hungary, which renounced its right of veto following the rise to power of the new Prime Minister, Peter Magyar.
