Every year on April 21, the World Creativity and Innovation Day is celebarted as an initiative supported by the United Nations to highlight the essential role of new ideas in economic, social and human development. This day draws attention to the importance of original thinking and unconventional solutions in a constantly changing world, where global challenges require adapted and effective responses.
The day was instituted in 2017, by a resolution of the UN General Assembly, and was chosen with the aim of encouraging governments, organizations and citizens to create an environment in which the freedom to create and express new ideas is encouraged and supported, IPN reports.
This day is marked six days after the birth of Leonardo da Vinci, one of the greatest representatives of the Italian Renaissance and of the connection between art and science.
The UN stresses that sustainable development is closely linked to the capacity of societies to generate new ideas, promote cooperation between areas and encourage free expression. Creativity and innovation are not limited to technology or science, but also include contributions from education, culture, arts and communication.
