The designated Prime Minister, Vasile Tofan, will hold consultations in the coming days to form the future cabinet of ministers. He did not provide details about the composition of the new executive, but claims that the government team will also include new people. The statements were made after President Maia Sandu officially nominated him for the position of Prime Minister, reports IPN.
Vasile Tofan asserts that the future Government will combine continuity with the necessary changes and will focus on economy and European integration. According to him, the executive must regain the confidence of the business environment, to encourage investments, exports, and job creation.
When asked whether he will modify the governmental structure or reduce the number of ministries, the appointed Prime Minister did not provide a concrete answer, stating that the immediate priority is to fulfill the commitments undertaken in the European integration process.
“I am a responsible person, I do not like improvisations, especially in such important matters. I admit that I do not know many of the ministers. The first thing I have to do is to get to know the team, to discuss together and only then to make decisions. I intend to bring even new people into governance, in an extended sense. I believe you will also see new faces as part of the government team,” the designated candidate mentioned.
Vasile Tofan also stated that he desires a different style of communication, based on transparency and direct dialogue. “I will call things by their names. I will communicate directly and transparently. I will touch the wound even when it hurts,” he mentioned.
Consultations for the appointment of a new prime minister were initiated by President Maia Sandu after the resignation of Alexandru Munteanu, announced on July 3. The parliamentary opposition did not participate, describing the discussions as formal. The PAS faction proposed Vasile Tofan, and the head of state subsequently nominated him for the position of prime minister. Until the inauguration of a new Government, the interim is ensured by Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu.
