Prosecutor Vasile Plevan rejects the statements made by lawyer Igor Hlopetchi, who publicly accused him of covering up a rape case and fabricating criminal files. In a response given to IPN, Vasile Plevan labeled the accusations as untruths and claims he has been subjected to a harassment campaign for over four years.
According to the prosecutor, the Superior Council of Prosecutors would have issued two decisions, in February and March, by which it found that the accusations made against him are unfounded and affect his honor and dignity.
“I have been harassed by this lawyer since February 2022, when he found out that I was investigating him and I summoned him for indictment. Since then, false comments and accusations against me constantly appear,” Plevan declared.
He asserts that he has filed several defamation complaints and that law enforcement is currently examining the reports. The prosecutor says that, over the past few years, hundreds of complaints and reports have been filed against him, all of which have been dismissed or resulted in the refusal to initiate disciplinary checks.
Vasile Plevan has also rejected the accusations that he would have fabricated criminal cases or benefited from the protection of judicial institutions. He even referred to publicized cases, stating that the adopted solutions were confirmed by courts or examined according to legal procedures.
At the same time, the prosecutor claims that he was followed and filmed on multiple occasions, and the images were allegedly published on social networks and Telegram channels. “It’s a persecution campaign because I exercised my legal duties,” he stated.
