Unjustified wealth of about 302 thousand lei in the case of a former vice-president of the judiciary

The National Integrity Authority found an unjustified wealth of about 302 thousand lei in the case of the former vice-president of the Chisinau Court, Central Headquarters, Vitalie Stratan, as well as his family members. The substantial difference between the acquired wealth, the income obtained and the expenses made was identified for the years 2017-2018 and 2024, reports IPN.

The integrity inspector also found a violation of the wealth and personal interests declaration regime and decided to disqualify Vitalie Stratan from holding public positions for a period of three years, after the finalization of the finding act.

According to ANI, the largest patrimonial difference comes from the deposit into the account, in August 2018, of the sum of 240 thousand lei. The former magistrate claimed that the money represented an advance received for the sale of an apartment, but the inspector rejected the explanation, citing the lack of documents to confirm the transaction. At the same time, when depositing the money, Stratan told the bank that the amount came from a loan and personal savings.

Furthermore, the inspector noted that Stratan did not declare the cash held and several debts, including a loan of 960 thousand lei and a loan of 200 thousand lei. The explanations given during the inspection were deemed contradictory.

In total, ANI has established asset differences of 301,776 lei for the years 2017, 2018 and 2024, equivalent to 49.63 average salaries in the economy, above the legal threshold that defines unjustified wealth.

The act of ascertainment can be contested in court within 30 days.
