Three doctors from Gagauzia, investigated for malpractice leading to deaths

Three doctors from the Comrat District Hospital have been sent to the defendants’ bench for malpractice and risk up to three years in prison. According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, the forensic examination demonstrated that the death of two patients occurred as a result of medical negligence, reports IPN.

The UTA Gagauzia Prosecutor’s Office has sent two criminal cases to court, involving the three doctors. They are accused of not adhering to the rules of providing medical assistance, which led to the death of the patient.

The first death occurred in October 2022. At that time, a patient who had suffered a severe trauma was transported to the hospital. The case materials mention that he was insufficiently examined, with the doctors limiting themselves to a superficial intervention. The patient was not provided with emergency medical treatment in time, which led to his death, as stated in a press release issued by the PG.

The second episode of medical negligence, which led to the death of another patient in the same hospital, occurred in January last year. The death came a few hours after the victim suffered multiple fractures in a road accident. According to the PG, the lack of proper medical control and adequate supervision prevented the timely assessment of the patient’s condition and the making of urgent medical decisions.
