Thousands of buildings were damaged following an earthquake that shook Gansu province in northwestern China on Saturday. At least 11 people were injured, IPN reports.
The earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.6, occurred at 05:49 AM, with its epicenter approximately 140 kilometers southeast of the provincial capital of Gansu.
Mediafax reports that 11 people were taken to local hospitals, five of whom were admitted for further treatment. All are in stable condition, according to state television CCTV and the Xinhua news agency.
Images broadcast by the Chinese media show rescue teams removing bricks and debris. Although some sections of the road were covered with rocks and debris, traffic was flowing normally. Approximately 7,800 people in the Longxi and Zhangxian districts were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
