In the following days, the process that will allow the opening of cluster negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union will be finalized. The statement was made by Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan, after the Cypriot presidency of the EU Council informed that the country has met all the necessary conditions for the opening of negotiations, reports IPN.
The MEP stated that the decision marks an important moment in the European journey of the Republic of Moldova and represents the result of reforms implemented in recent years. “This is the moment we all have been waiting for, especially the people of the Republic of Moldova”, he added.
Siegfried Muresan emphasized that Moldova has continued its reforms and approach to the EU despite external pressures and security challenges. He mentioned that the country is considered one of the most advanced candidates in terms of implementing the necessary reforms for accession.
“We, in the European Parliament, believe that the Republic of Moldova has been ready for over a year to begin negotiations on clusters”, stated Siegfried Muresan. According to the MEP, the European legislature will continue to provide Moldova with political and technical support in the accession process.
