The source of pollution on the Raut river is the pumping station of the Water and Apa Canal-Orhei, however, the responsible economic agent has not yet been identified. The clarifications were made for IPN by the head of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, Dorin Poverjuc, in the context of the appearance of a dense foam on the river bed at the end of last week.

Dorin Poverjuc stated that on-site inspections were carried out, in collaboration with representatives of local authorities. As part of this action, findings were documented and water samples were taken to determine the degree of pollution. According to him, once the laboratory results are obtained, a violation case will be opened, and the damage caused to the environment will be calculated.

The head of the inspectorate mentioned that, following recent checks, no dead fish were found in the Raut river. He also emphasized that some information previously appearing in the public space could refer to older situations. However, the authorities continue to monitor the area to clarify all circumstances related to pollution.

Although the water of the Răut River is not intended for consumption, the representatives of the Orheiul Vechi Nature Reserve have issued a warning to fishermen and animal owners, recommending them not to use the water until it is confirmed to be safe.
