The President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, says that his presence in the Republic of Moldova is a guarantee of the continued support that the Romanian state provides to the Republic of Moldova. ‘It is an important moment that the Republic of Moldova is experiencing – the beginning of the process of accession to the European Union. We share the same set of values and have the same aspirations,’ declared the leader from Cotroceni at the press conference, held together with President Maia Sandu, as reported by IPN.
Nicusor Dan praised the determination of the authorities in Chișinău to implement the necessary reforms for European integration, considering this process a guarantee for prosperity, institutional predictability, and security. The Romanian President drew attention to the threat posed by the Russian Federation and mentioned the need for common means of response to hybrid warfare.
At the same time, the leader at Cotroceni highlighted the importance of the parliamentary elections on September 28 for maintaining the European path of the Republic of Moldova. “I am optimistic that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova will have the necessary civic spirit to keep the European path,” added the President of Romania.
On her turn, President Maia Sandu congratulated Romania for its new leadership. “I am happy that at the helm of Romania, we have a strong partner, a person who respects the Republic of Moldova and is a friend to us. We are here today because our citizens have gathered vote by vote, mathematically obtained power and triumphed against an immense danger”, the head of state noted.
The President also referred to the war waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, stating that it is not just a war with weapons, but also a systematic attack on democracies and countries that choose the path of freedom. “Both the Republic of Moldova and Romania know what this threat means. We have been the target of serious attacks, aimed at weakening us and dividing us – to tear us apart into opposing camps, between truth and lies, to erode our trust in each other and prevent us from building a peaceful future together”, says the head of state.
At the same time, Maia Sandu thanked Romania for the support given to Ukraine, mentioning that this help not only protects Ukraine, but also the Republic of Moldova and Romania. “We are ready to support efforts for civil protection, peacekeeping, and strengthening European values. Moldova is not only coming to receive, but also to contribute. To be a part of a stronger and more united Europe – alongside Romania, as it is only natural,” added Maia Sandu.
