The National Army has received the first five Piranha 5 armored carriers, provided by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The vehicles will arrive at the training centers this evening, reports IPN.
The Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatii, mentioned that the new carriers will be integrated into the military training process.
In turn, the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Chisinau, Hubert Knirsch, noted that the transfer of the five armored vehicles reflects the continuity of support granted and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of security.
“Through this partnership, we contribute to strengthening the defense capabilities of the Republic of Moldova and increasing the level of protection and safety for Moldovan peacekeepers,” the diplomat specified.
Piranha 5 is a modern eight-wheeled armored carrier, used by armies from several countries, capable of transporting three crew members and eight soldiers. It can reach 100 km per hour and has a range of approximately 550 kilometers. The vehicle is used for the transportation and protection of military personnel during missions.
In 2023, the Republic of Moldova received another 19 armored carriers Piranha-3H, also offered by the German Government.
