The women’s tennis team of the Republic of Moldova has achieved promotion to Group II Europe of the Billie Jean King Cup competition. The performance was secured after a 2-0 victory over Malta, in the decisive match of the Group III Europe tournament held in San Marino, reports IPN.
According to the National Tennis Federation of Moldova, to reach the promotion play-off, the team won Group B, in which it defeated Iceland and Kosovo, in both confrontations with a score of 3-0. The victory against the team from Kosovo ensured qualification in the decisive phase of the competition.
In the promotion match, the players from Moldova prevailed over Malta and secured their presence in the Europe Group II in the next season. From this edition of the tournament, the promotion was achieved by the Republic of Moldova and Armenia, which defeated Estonia in the other playoff match.
The national team was comprised of Abigail Rencheli, Lia Belibova, Arina Gamretkaia, and the team captain, Daniela Ciobanu. The Moldovan representative team concluded the competition undefeated, winning all the matches played at San Marino.
