The head of the American Counterterrorism Center, Joseph Kent, resigned on Tuesday, stating that Iran does not pose an imminent threat to the US. This is the first high-ranking official from the presidential administration to resign in the context of the conflict in the Middle East, reports IPN.
“I cannot, in good conscience, support the war in Iran. Iran did not represent an imminent threat to our nation and it is clear that we started this war due to the pressure exerted by Israel and its powerful lobby,” wrote Joseph Kent in a letter addressed to President Donald Trump, published on social networks.
The former official stated that he still supports the foreign policy directions promoted by Trump in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 election campaigns and in his first term, including actions against ISIS. At the same time, Kent argued that, at the beginning of the second term of the American president, certain Israeli officials and influential representatives from the US media would have carried out a disinformation campaign, which fueled support for a conflict with Iran.
