The “Dimitrie Cantemir” Middle School in the city of Stefan Voda will benefit from renovation with the financial support of the Japanese Government, under the “Kusanone” Program. The Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Kazuyuki Takeuchi, emphasized that the institution has warmly welcomed Ukrainian refugee children, thus contributing to the protection of their fundamental rights to education, reports IPN.
During the contract signing ceremony, Ambassador Kazuyuki Takeuchi stated that the middle school students come from various ethnic backgrounds, and 40% of them are refugee children from Ukraine.
The diplomat mentioned that, due to the war in Ukraine, an increase in the number of displaced children is anticipated, which is why the renovation of the school is necessary to provide a better learning environment for these children and to prevent interruptions in their educational process.
The value of the grant exceeds 112 thousand dollars. Within the program, roof renovation works and window replacements are planned in several areas of the school.
The “Kusanone” Human Security Grant Program was launched in Moldova in 2008. To date, Japan has provided non-repayable financing of 7.8 million dollars for 95 projects in the fields of health, education, and public utilities.
