The deputies from Gagauzia discuss about the resignation of the Executive Committee.

The resignation of the Executive Committee could be discussed at the next session of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, IPN correspondent in the region reports.

Members of the Popular Assembly are discontent with the fact that the executive branch of Gagauzia rejects the proposals put forth by them, including the increase of the Fund for supporting children in need of complicated surgical interventions.

The deputies reminded that the fugitive oligarch Ilan Șor promised a “dream land” and investments of 500 million euros in Găgăuzia, but “instead he blocks even what can be achieved from budget funds.”

“In 2016, a fund was created in Gagauzia to support children in need of expensive medical services. The local authorities annually transfer approximately one million lei to this fund from the budget. However, this year, the deputies decided to supplement the fund with two million lei and presented the respective amendments to the Executive Committee, but it did not support the proposal.”

Deputy Ilya Uzun, from the team of the mayor, stated that the executive body has submitted a project to the deputies which provides for a 50% increase in the fund. He also supported that seriously ill children receive assistance due to the cooperation of the Executive Committee with the Eurasia Foundation (which collaborates with the fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor). However, there are no official or unofficial data on how the Foundation contributes to the performance of surgical interventions.

“With a majority of votes, the deputies repeatedly supported the increase of the fund with two million lei and, therefore, the Executive Committee is forced to implement the decision of the People’s Assembly.”

“In the same session, on Friday, the deputies blocked the changes to the Electoral Code of Gagauzia. Among these were those that abolished the requirements for candidates for the position of governor and deputy to live within the region and speak the Gagauz language. The absence of some of these amendments allowed the supporters of Șor to enter the Executive Committee without knowing the Gagauz language.”

Deputy Alexandru Tarnavschi called the current Executive Committee “dysfunctional” and pledged to prepare a list of admitted violations, which would allow to discuss the dismissal of the Executive Committee, otherwise, he said, “the situation will get worse day by day”.

It is worth noting that the deputies of the Popular Assembly were the ones who approved (with a majority of votes, but not unanimously) in October 2023, the program of the Executive Committee, based on the promises of Șor. The program included plans for the construction of an airport, creating 7,000 jobs, reducing natural gas and electricity prices, increasing pensions and salaries, etc.

According to reports in the international press, users are experiencing difficulties with authentication, loading the news feed, and using some features of the social network. It is not yet clear whether other services of the Meta company are also affected.

In Moldova, there are issues with browser connectivity, but access through the application is possible.
