The activities of the Municipal Center for Adult Learning and Education, located within the “Matei Basarab” high school in Chisinau, will be expanded. The auditorium of the high school, which hosts the center, will be renovated with the support of the Government of Japan, which provides a grant of over 75 thousand dollars through the “Kusanone” Program, reports IPN.
The grant contract was signed on Tuesday in Chisinau between the Japanese Embassy in Moldova and the Municipal Directorate of Education, Youth and Sports. The parties noted that the new hall will allow the organization of courses for a larger number of participants, among whom are people from socially vulnerable backgrounds and Ukrainian refugees settled in the capital.
The Ambassador of Japan to Chisinau, Takeuchi Kazuyuki, emphasized that education should be accessible at any age and for every person, regardless of the situation. At the same time, the diplomat reaffirmed Japan’s support for the educational sector in Moldova.
The Deputy Head of DGETS, Andrei Pavaloi, stated that currently, the center does not have a room spacious enough for activities and presentations. He estimates that the work will be completed by September 1st.
The funding is provided through the “Kusanone” Human Security Assistance Program, which has been operating in the Republic of Moldova since 2008. So far, the Government of Japan has funded 94 projects in schools, hospitals, and other public institutions. The total value of the support exceeds 7.8 million dollars.
