A drone flew over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova on Wednesday, after crossing the state border from the direction of Moghiliov Podolsk, Vinitsa region, towards the village of Sauca in the Ocnița district. The airspace in the northern part of the country was temporarily closed, reports IPN.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the unmanned aircraft entered the country around 04:00 PM. Five minutes later, the drone was spotted by locals over the city of Balti, as it was heading towards the Ungheni district.
Subsequently, the National Army’s surveillance systems detected the device at 04:19 PM in the town of Lapusna, Hancesti district, and at 04:23 PM near the town of Carpineni, in the same direction, towards the south of the country. The authorities have announced that they will provide additional information.
Update: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the unauthorized overflight of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova. The institution qualifies the incident as a serious violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing that such actions pose a direct risk to the security of citizens. At the same time, the MFA reiterates the importance of strictly respecting Moldova’s airspace, in accordance with international law norms.
