German authorities have evacuated over 20,000 residents of the city of Cologne, after three unexploded American bombs from World War II were discovered in the center of the city, according to IPN.
The evacuated zone includes the entire old part of the city, 58 hotels, three bridges over the Rhine, the city hall, the district of Deutz train station, museums, a hospital, two nursing homes and has a radius of one thousand meters. Germany’s national railway operator, Deutsche Bahn, has warned that many trains will be diverted or even cancelled, and road traffic has also been greatly disrupted, reports Deutsche Welle.
The found firebombs are two 90-kilogram bombs and one 45-kilogram bomb, made in the USA, and the experts are working on defusing them.
