Skopje Europeans: Bronze for Moldova in Judo

Gabriela Herta ascended the podium of the European Youth Olympic Festival – Skopje 2025, bringing the Republic of Moldova a bronze medal in judo, reports IPN.

In the small final of the 48 kg weight category, Herța defeated the Croatian Martina Tucaj.

“With determination, courage, and a fighter’s spirit, Gabriela has shown what true Olympic character means. Congratulations, Gabriela! We are proud of you!”, mentioned the National Olympic and Sports Committee, in a Facebook post.

On Tuesday, Climentii Ursu placed first in the 10 meter Air Pistol event, thus winning the first gold medal in shooting ever obtained by the Republic of Moldova at an edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival. In the 10m Air Pistol Solo – Boys event, the athlete won his second gold medal, defeating Bulgarian Damyan Iliev in the final. Climentii Ursu is also the first Moldovan athlete qualified for the 2027 European Games.

The Republic of Moldova is represented at the competition in Skopje, North Macedonia, by a group of 23 athletes, who are participating in athletics, swimming, judo, taekwondo, badminton, cycling, table tennis, and shooting events.

The European Youth Olympic Festival is organized under the auspices of the European Olympic Committees and provides a valuable platform for young people aspiring to participate in future European, world championships and the Olympic Games.



Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for this weekend. In most parts of the country, the maximum temperatures will reach +34 degrees Celsius, reports IPN.

The warning is valid for the center, south, and east of the country. Several districts in the north are also under the yellow code. The northernmost districts of the country such as Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Glodeni, Rascani, and Donduseni – are not affected by the warning.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the warning can be updated depending on the evolution of weather phenomena.

During periods of heatwave, authorities recommend people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, to consume enough fluids, and to pay increased attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions.
