Italy has been hit by its third heat wave of the year: meteorologists have issued red heat wave alerts for several regions of the country, according to the ANSA news agency, as reported by IPN.
If on Monday there were two localities under warning, on Tuesday four alerts were issued, and for Wednesday, seven cities will be under a red heatwave code, and 9 under an orange warning code. On Friday, 45 degrees are forecasted in Sardinia. Florence, which has been under a red code since July 8th until at least July 15th, records daily temperatures between 35 and 39 degrees Celsius.
The situation is just as difficult in Perugia, Brescia and Turin. The red code alert comes into effect on Wednesday in Bologna, Frosinone and Rome. And in 11 cities, the orange code warning comes into force. Some city halls have launched special telephone lines for the elderly or those with conditions who need help during this period, for the procurement of medicines, water or food, with payment on delivery. Calls will be redirected to community associations enrolled in the program who will do the shopping and deliver it to their homes.
