Preventive arrest for three detainees in the case regarding the assassination of individuals from Ukraine

Three out of the four individuals detained in the Republic of Moldova in the case concerning the preparation of assassinations of public figures from Ukraine have been placed in preventive detention for 30 days. The measure was ordered by the Chisinau Court, Ciocana headquarters, reports IPN.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, the man considered to be the organizer of the scheme, as well as two other suspects – a woman and a man, have been placed under arrest on the territory of Moldova.

“The fourth person is under criminal investigation, as follows: they are detained, and the prosecutors have assigned them the criminal-procedural status of accused, just like the other three,” specifies PCCOCS.

A joint Moldovan-Ukrainian operation led to the arrest of 11 suspects in a case involving the preparation of assassinations of public figures in Ukraine: four in Moldova, including the group coordinator, and seven in Ukraine. The group was led by a man from Chisinau, with a criminal record in Russia for drug trafficking and connections with coordinators from Russian special services via Telegram. The other detainees from Moldova are two cohabitants and a young man, and the 10 recruits, aged between 19 and 43, come from Chisinau, Comrat, Orhei, and Tighina, some with records for hooliganism and traffic offenses.

The former president of the Constitutional Court, Alexandru Tanase, stated that the changes regarding the competences of the Gagauz autonomy in organizing elections do not represent an infringement on its status. “Gagauzia does not have enemies in Moldova,” Tănase declared in the show “Teritoria Svobodi” with Lilia Burakovski, reports IPN.

Alexandru Tanase also stated that Comrat is being “brazenly manipulated”. “I am very sorry that, after 30 years, other political parties are not normally represented there, and pro-Moscow oriented politicians control the situation in the autonomy”, clarified the former president of the Constitutional Court.

In his opinion, this is a backlog of Chisinau, for which the country will pay a high price due to the ignorance of the situation in the region.

He mentioned that, most likely, legislative changes will be made, according to which Chisinau will designate the electoral bodies itself that will organize the elections in Gagauzia – on the date set by the Popular Assembly.

“Gagauzia has no enemy in the Republic of Moldova. There is no politician – not even the most marginal – who would say that autonomy should be abolished or that certain competencies should be reduced,” concluded the former president of the Constitutional Court.
