A major power outage, which led to the shutdown of several thermal power plants and interruptions in the supply of heat and hot water, occurred Monday evening in Dubasari. The incident was reportedly caused by a failure at the Dubasari Hydroelectric Power Plant, against the backdrop of unfavorable weather conditions, reports the IPN correspondent from the Transnistrian region.
According to the locals, around 06:00 PM, the electricity went out simultaneously in several districts of the city of Dubasari. Practically immediately after that, the company “Tirasteploenergo” announced the emergency shutdown of the heating plants.
The disturbances also affected other cities in the region. In Tiraspol, due to voltage fluctuations, the thermal power plant no. 6 temporarily stopped, being restarted at 06:30 PM. In Rabnita, the thermal power plant no. 1 was disconnected and was put back into operation at approximately 06:41 PM. Subsequently, it was found that the thermal power plant no. 9 in Slobozia was also disconnected, this one providing heating for the local hospital.
The online data of the electric network operator Moldelectrica initially recorded a sharp drop in the production of the Dubasari Hydroelectric Power Station, reaching approximately 14.9 MW, and at 06:36 PM the station completely ceased to produce electrical energy.
The Dubasari Administration has indeed confirmed the breakdown. According to the chief engineer of the Dubasari Hydroelectric Power Station, Alexei Salamatin, the strong wind and ice caused damage to a cable at the transformer station. As a result, three 110 kV power transmission lines and two 10 kV lines were disconnected. Reconnection work continues.
