Polish Prime Minister on Independence Day: Europe will be stronger with Moldova

Europe will be stronger with Moldova, and loyalty to values and the voice of the Republic of Moldova will make the European Union much richer; there can be no secure Europe without an independent Moldova. These statements were made in Chisinau by the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, who was invited by President Maia Sandu to mark Independence Day alongside the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, reports IPN.

Donald Tusk emphasized that the European Union is expecting Moldova and other countries aspiring to join or already in the accession process. However, the Polish Prime Minister noted that this is a joint effort and that no favors are involved.

“Europe will be stronger with Moldova; your resilience, loyalty to values, and the voice of the Republic of Moldova will make the European Union much richer. Simply put—there can be no secure Europe, no secure Poland, France, or Germany, without an independent and secure Moldova,” emphasized Donald Tusk.

The official specified that Poland embarked on the path of integration much earlier, undergoing political transformation and transition, and is ready to share this experience.

“Moldova is exactly the country we want in the EU. You are ambitious, courageous, with traditions, hardworking, and ready to defend what is right, even when the challenges are serious,” stated the Polish Prime Minister.

Donald Tusk emphasized that peace and stability in Moldova are important for Europe: “Peace means dignity, moral values, stability. This is why Moldova chose the EU, chose peace instead of war.”

“We support Moldova, we support the aspirations of the Moldovan authorities and society, which is why we are here in Chisinau today—to celebrate together, as Moldovan tradition dictates, a tradition that is now becoming a shared one,” said the Polish Prime Minister.

This evening, the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, together with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, will address the citizens of the Republic of Moldova during the event organized on the occasion of Independence Day at the Great National Assembly Square.

The former president of the Constitutional Court, Alexandru Tanase, stated that the changes regarding the competences of the Gagauz autonomy in organizing elections do not represent an infringement on its status. “Gagauzia does not have enemies in Moldova,” Tănase declared in the show “Teritoria Svobodi” with Lilia Burakovski, reports IPN.

Alexandru Tanase also stated that Comrat is being “brazenly manipulated”. “I am very sorry that, after 30 years, other political parties are not normally represented there, and pro-Moscow oriented politicians control the situation in the autonomy”, clarified the former president of the Constitutional Court.

In his opinion, this is a backlog of Chisinau, for which the country will pay a high price due to the ignorance of the situation in the region.

He mentioned that, most likely, legislative changes will be made, according to which Chisinau will designate the electoral bodies itself that will organize the elections in Gagauzia – on the date set by the Popular Assembly.

“Gagauzia has no enemy in the Republic of Moldova. There is no politician – not even the most marginal – who would say that autonomy should be abolished or that certain competencies should be reduced,” concluded the former president of the Constitutional Court.
