Over 12 tons of children’s books were confiscated by the Russian customs service in Saint Petersburg. According to Russian authorities, it would be about extremist literature, reports IPN referring to TVP.
The lot seized by customs officers contains 28 titles printed in the UK in English and German. Among the volumes considered to have extremist potential are educational and recreational titles, such as “The Dinosaurs that Met Santa Claus”, “My First Storybook”, and “Space Puzzles”. The value of the book lot is approximately 162 thousand euros.
The books were ordered by a Russian company specialized in educational literature and publications in foreign languages. An administrative case was opened in the name of the carrier, who risks a fine of around three thousand euros and the definitive loss of the goods.
Although the British publishing house Usborne officially ceased cooperation with Russia following the outbreak of the aggression war in Ukraine, its volumes continue to reach the Russian market through so-called parallel imports.
