OTP Bank Moldova announces 2024 financial results

  • In 2024, OTP Bank Moldova recorded a net profit of 551 million MDL, generating a return on assets of 2.5% and a return on equity of 17.8%.

OTP Bank Moldova recorded a net profit of 551 million MDL in 2024, supported by solid revenues and optimal administrative expenses.
The operating profit recorded at the end of 2024 was 660.1 million MDL, down 7.9% compared to the previous year’s result, determined by the decrease in interest income by 10%, directly influenced by the decrease in the average base rate by 6.8 p.p. (from 10.1% in 12 months of 2023 to 3.8% in 12 months of 2024). At the same time, the bank managed to maintain an adequate level of operating expenses, which increased below the inflation rate.

The bank remains in the top 4 banks, which hold a majority share of the volume of loans granted in the market, focusing on sustainable lending and efficient use of resources, both of depositors and international financial institutions.
In accordance with local reporting standards, the bank’s assets reached the level of 21.4 billion MDL at the end of 2024, positioning themselves at a level similar to that recorded at the end of 2023, as a result of efficient asset and liability management.

In terms of attracted deposits, OTP Bank ranks among the top 4 participants with a market share of 13.1%, the trust of customers and especially of companies in Moldova being demonstrated by holding 2nd place on the market in terms of deposits attracted from legal entities with a share of 17.4%.
OTP Bank Moldova recorded solid profitability, recording a return on assets of 2.5% (system average 2.4%) and a return on capital of 17.8% (system average 14.8%).

The bank’s capital adequacy ratio reached 22.7% (-2.5 percentage points compared to the end of 2023), as a result of the relaunch of lending boosted by economic growth.

OTP Bank is a strategic partner for international financial institutions in stimulating the economic development of Moldova. Thus, in 2024, OTP Bank signed the first Risk Sharing Facility – the EBRD risk-sharing guarantee that allows generating a new volume of loans of up to EUR 30 million for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Moldova. The risk-sharing guarantee makes an important contribution to the sustainable development of SMEs, which represent 98% of all businesses in Moldova and employ 60% of the country’s workers.

In 2024, OTP Group recorded an adjusted consolidated profit of EUR 2.7 billion, the contribution of the group’s subsidiaries outside Hungary was 68%, and the ROE reached 23.5%.

Users from several countries reported connection issues with Facebook on Sunday. The number of reports rapidly increased during the morning, suggesting a possible widespread malfunction, according to the Downdetector platform, quoted by IPN.

According to reports in the international press, users are experiencing difficulties with authentication, loading the news feed, and using some features of the social network. It is not yet clear whether other services of the Meta company are also affected.

In Moldova, there are issues with browser connectivity, but access through the application is possible. Until this time, Meta company has not provided an explanation for the cause of the incident nor a timeline for its resolution. In the absence of an official confirmation, the exact extent of the disruption remains unclear.

The Downdetector platform monitors online service interruptions and centralizes user reports and other data regarding their functionality. A sudden increase in notifications usually indicates the existence of a technical problem.
