The day of Gheorghe Urschi’s funeral will be declared a national day of mourning. The announcement was made by President Maia Sandu. The head of state emphasized that the Republic of Moldova has lost a personality who has marked entire generations, reports IPN.
According to Maia Sandu, Gheorghe Urschi brought light and truth to the stage, through his performances and monologues.
“Gheorghe Urschi has always carried in his heart the love for the people and the values that unite us. He knew how to speak about our pains and fulfillments with sincerity and humor. A free spirit, yet profound in his observations, he managed to bring not only smiles to people, but also hope,” is stated in the message from the president.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu also conveyed a tribute message, emphasizing that Moldova loses not only a great artist, but also a part of her soul.
“Gheorghe Urschi, the king of Moldovan humor, has left us, leaving behind an irreplaceable cultural legacy. Through his talent, he managed to transform humor into a form of truth, making us laugh, but also reflect on our own weaknesses and realities,” mentioned the prime minister.
Officials have conveyed their condolences to the family, professional colleagues, and all those who admired him.
The Ministry of Culture noted that Gheorghe Urschi was one of the most beloved personalities of the national culture, with a remarkable career in theater, film, and television. The institution emphasized that the artist has marked entire generations with the authenticity and finesse of his humor, and his creations will remain an important landmark for the culture of the Republic of Moldova.
The mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban, also came with a message of condolence. “I learned with sadness about the departure of Gheorghe Urschi. For many of us, he was and will remain the man who knows how to call things by their name, but with a smile on his lips. Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova, loses a beloved man, and the void left is large,” mentioned the mayor.
Gheorghe Urschi, dubbed the “king of Moldovan humor,” has passed away at the age of 78.
