After years marked by pandemic, war, and energy crises, the economy of the Republic of Moldova shows clear signs of stabilization and is entering a new stage of growth. This is stated by the acting Deputy Prime Minister Doina Nistor, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, who is at the end of her term. Doina Nistor mentions that from March to October, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization (MDED) managed to lay the foundations of a new development model, focused on productivity, added value, innovation, and European integration, reports IPN.
During her eight-month tenure, Doina Nistor announces that the ministry has managed to implement over 2,270 projects with a total budget of approximately one billion lei, providing over 30,000 jobs.
“I have worked to stimulate investments and create new engines of economic growth, capable of transforming stabilization into development. I conclude my mandate with the conviction that I have strengthened the foundation upon which economic growth can be built. The engines of Moldova’s economy have been reignited, and the general perception of the business environment is one of confidence and continuity,” declared Doina Nistor.
Furthermore, the acting minister mentioned the progress of the EVO platform, which has allowed approximately 70% of business services to be available online. At the same time, exports to the EU market have been consolidated, reaching 67%, compared to 35% in the previous decade.
When asked about the country’s current account deficit, which is 21% of GDP, Doina Nistor stated that the way out of this situation is investments in the services sector. This, according to her, will also help in achieving the point of doubling the GDP by 2030.
In the new Government, which is set to be led by Alexandru Munteanu, Eugen Osmochescu is proposed for the position of Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization. He is an expert with over 25 years of experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies, policies, and institutional reforms for enhancing economic competitiveness.
