Athletes from the Republic of Moldova have won six medals at the World University Contact Sports Championship, held in Brazil, with most of them reaching the awards podium, reports IPN.
The Ministry of Education and Research notes that the best results were achieved in the women’s wrestling and muaythai competitions. Freestyle fighters Mihaela Samoil (55 kg) and Irina Ringaci (65 kg) became university world champions, while Andrei Avramov (-67 kg) won the gold in muaythai, after a victory in the final against the Mexican Luis Emilio Gonzalez.
Three silver medals were won by Ion Demian (92 kg), in freestyle wrestling, as well as by Alexandru Solovei (77 kg) and Gabriel Lupasco (87 kg), in Greco-Roman style. Two other Moldovan athletes, Constantin Chirilov and Sergiu Lupașco, took fifth place in the freestyle wrestling competition.
