The Republic of Moldova is making significant progress in the fight against corruption, according to the evaluation report adopted at the plenary meeting of the Anti-Corruption Network for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ACN) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Of the nine areas assessed in the fifth monitoring round of the Istanbul Anti-Corruption Action Plan, four were rated “exceptional”, IPN reports.
The greatest progress has been made in the following areas: anti-corruption policies, the independence of the judiciary, the independence of the prosecution and the authorities specialized in fighting corruption, according to a press release issued by the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA), the institution that represented the Republic of Moldova at the meeting held in Paris, France.
Two other areas – conflict of interest and declaration of income as well as whistleblower protection – were rated ‘high’. Three areas – integrity in business, public procurement and anti-corruption enforcement – were rated as “medium” in line with international standards.
The full report is to be published in the coming period and, according to the CNA, will be an important benchmark for assessing Moldova’s commitments to integrity and institutional reform.
