Iran and the USA have agreed on the main ideas of a future agreement regarding the Iranian nuclear program. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, following a round of negotiations in Geneva with representatives of the American president, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, reports IPN referring to Al Jazeera.
The Iranian dignitary said that a date has not yet been set for the next round, as the parties are working on draft texts for the agreement. Subsequently, Tehran and Washington will exchange proposals and establish the schedule of the discussions.
At the same time, the head of Iranian diplomacy reiterated that Tehran does not plan to either manufacture or acquire nuclear weapons, which, according to him, contradicts Iran’s national security doctrine. However, Abbas Araghchi emphasized that Iran, as a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, asserts its right to research, produce and use nuclear energy, including uranium enrichment for peaceful purposes.
Tehran and Washington have resumed negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program on February 6. The US demands that Iran completely stop uranium enrichment and give up its stock of about 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium, to prevent the construction of a nuclear weapon.
