The general mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban, banned from entering Romanian territory, suggests that the ruling party in Chisinau might be behind the decision. In a video message, without directly referring to the ban imposed on him, the mayor stated that what has been seen in the public space denotes only one thing: “political vendetta on the part of Maia Sandu, her regime, the PAS regime”, reports IPN.
Mayor Ion Ceban, who leads the “Miscarea Alternativa Nationala” party, accuses the Action and Solidarity Party of “inventing all sorts of tricks to stay in power”, using state tools and acting through various institutions. “And now they’ve come to the point of banging their fists on the table and stomping their feet on the floor, personally asking me to be blocked in one way or another”, declared Ion Ceban.
The politician, who anticipates “the dirtiest parliamentary election campaign that the Republic of Moldova has ever had”, is confident that he has the support of the electorate, both at home and abroad.
“You will not bring me to my knees, you will not bring the team to its knees. We rely on the support of the people, as it has always been”, Ion Ceban further said, addressing those in power.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest explains, in a press release, that the entry ban into Romania imposed on Ion Ceban is due to national security considerations. At the same time, information has emerged in the public space in the Republic of Moldova that the mayor of Chisinau has also been banned from entering the Schengen area.
Contacted by IPN, representatives of the EU Delegation in Chisinau stated that they do not have confirmed information in this regard. When contacted by IPN for a reaction, the general mayor’s counselor, Natalia Ixari, did not answer the phone.
