Among the over two thousand victims of human trafficking identified and freed during a global operation carried out in 59 countries, there is also a 34-year-old woman originally from the Republic of Moldova. The information was confirmed for IPN by the press officer of the General Inspectorate of Police, Diana Fetco.
According to the IGP, the woman met a suspect on social networks and went to Greece for a meeting. Upon arrival, she was forced to provide sexual services. The victim was located by Moldovan police in less than a week, after she managed to briefly use her mobile phone.
Subsequently, the authorities initiated international cooperation, and the woman was protected and safely repatriated to the Republic of Moldova. The main suspect is being pursued, and law enforcement agencies are investigating the existence of an international prostitution network and conducting investigations to identify all involved parties.
The international operation Global Chain, conducted with the support of Interpol, Europol, Frontex, and Ameripol, involved police, customs, border, and other specialized services from Europe, Africa, Asia, and America. According to Frontex, during the action, over 565 thousand people, 360 thousand identity documents, 140 thousand vehicles, and 20 thousand locations were checked, and the coordination centers in North Macedonia and Brazil allowed real-time information exchange between the participating states.
